In the ancient art of Feng Shui, our life is said to be affected by the cosmic trinity: heaven luck, earth luck and human luck - each part contributing 33% to our whole being. Our heaven luck represents our God-given (or the universe, if you will), predetermined, individualized fate - something that we have no control over and cannot change. Our earth luck represents the feng shui in our home or environment - something that we have control of, to a certain degree, and CAN change. Our human luck represents our free will - our actions, choices, thoughts, beliefs and intentions - something we have absolutely full control of and can therefore change.
Much like Ayurveda, yoga and Chinese Medicine (acupuncture), classical Feng Shui originates from a long and sophisticated line of interdisciplinary bodies of knowledge and philosophy. Practiced since 3,000 BC, it is an intellectually based system that uses direction, location, and time to determine the type and flow of qi or energy in any given space. It analyzes, first and more importantly, the external landform - exterior surroundings that can affect the energy flow in an environment. Second, it considers the internal configuration, the interior of a home or office, and tailors the analysis to the person(s) inhabiting that space. It is a person and place specific, consequently a much more complex analysis than the new age, modern Feng Shui. Modern (sometimes called Western) Feng Shui relies less on directional energies and landforms but focuses more on philosophy/religion and the law of attraction hence the use of colors, ornaments/trinkets and decorations. Authentic classical Feng Shui, on the other hand, focuses on observing, calculating and evaluating the geographic composition of the land, the alignment with mother nature and the natural energies that exist in the surrounding environment.
Just as we are able to eliminate blockages and direct the flow of energy in our body holistically through acupuncture, Thai yoga massage (or any bodywork), yoga (or any movement modality), Feng Shui is a tool we can utilize for the same purpose, in our home and/or work space. A healthy body in a healthy home results in a healthy living.
